Sacramental Life

Baptisms
Baptisms are usually celebrated immediately after one of the weekend Masses on either Saturday or Sunday twice a month.  The parents must agree that they will bring the child up in the Faith.  Evidence for this agreement is usually seen in the fact that the parents are actively practicing their faith.  Baptisms of non-members of St. Boniface Church require a letter of permission from the pastor of their parish.  Parents must attend a Pre-Baptism session.  Consult the Church Bulletin for the seminar dates and times.

Reconciliation
This sacrament is celebrated on Saturday afternoons from 3:45 - 4:30 PM or by appointment. Our parish and other local parishes have "communal celebrations" of Reconciliation before Christmas and Easter.  For these, there are prayers, a Scripture reading, brief homily, and examination of conscience.  Afterwards, at least five priest-confessors hear individual confessions and offer absolution.

The Saturday Evening/Sunday Mass
This is the highlight in the life of a Catholic person.  To attend and actively participate in the Mass each week is vital to our spiritual life.  We are always reminded to come on time and to remain for the entire Mass out of respect to the Lord and others who are present.  Click here for the Liturgy Schedule.

First Reconciliation and First Communion
Second grade students of St. Boniface and St. Boniface PSR receive these two sacraments.  Students complete the necessary requirements by attending classes.  Students who are beyond second grade can make special arrangements with the Director of Religious Education to receive these sacraments for the first time.

Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated for students in the 8th grade who attend either St. Boniface school or the St. Boniface PSR.  Students are required to complete various course work as well as service projects. Those to be confirmed are to select a "sponsor" who is a good role model, is faithful to his/her religious obligations, and is committed to the Church.  For those beyond 8th grade, contact the Director of Religious Education to make arrangements.

Marriages
To be married at St. Boniface, one should be a registered parishioner, or the child of an active parishioner.  Catholics asking to be married at St. Boniface are expected to be practicing members of the Catholic Church.  Click here for more information on Marriage requirements.  The pastor should be contacted at least six months before the wedding date, and only he can set a date for the wedding once he has determined that there are no impediments to the marriage and he has secured the promise of the couple that they will cooperate with the premarriage program.  Weddings are usually celebrated on Friday evenings or Saturday afternoons.  Click here to view the helpful document Getting Married at St. Boniface.

Anointing of the Sick
Parishioners who are seriously or critically ill, or having surgery, should contact the pastor for the celebration of the sacrament.

Funerals
Funeral Masses are scheduled when the family consults with the funeral home.  If the person was a non-practicing Catholic, then the service is usually held at the funeral home.  If the Funeral is celebrated  at the church, the family may request that a luncheon for the family take place in the lower level of the church.  The family is responsible for the food, but a church committee is responsible for setting up and serving the food.

Communions for the Sick or Homebound
Please call the Parish Office to make arrangements for Pastoral Care of the Sick.  Parishioners planning to go to the hospital for tests and/or surgery are encouraged to receive this Sacrament beforehand. The priest can offer you this Sacrament if you are attending Mass the weekend (or two) before going to the hospital.

Please let us know if you or someone from your family  is in a local hospital and desires a visit from the priest or a pastoral minister.  Likewise, if a family member becomes a resident at a nursing home, let us know and we can arrange pastoral visits.

Holy Orders
We encourage those who are called to serve God’s People to contact us.  We also ask our parishioners to encourage those who are considering Holy Orders to come talk to us or visit www.getalifeinchrist.org.
